LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS
DIrector’s note
Traditionally a “Director’s Note” addresses what the director’s vision for the show is. They suggest what message or question they’d like the audience to come away with. I could certainly discuss how the mood of the show is meant to be claustrophobic and bleak, how audiences could perhaps wonder what “plant” they are feeding, and with what they are feeding it? But right here, right now in this moment of history, I’d mostly like to use this space to discuss why the actual process of mounting this show has made us feel thankful!
How lucky are we? After a year of isolation and uncertainty in so many areas of our lives, being able to bring talented students and adults together to make theatre magic in a shared space was once unimaginable. Yet here we are. Two months ago, we dove head first into the colossal task of producing this musical. We knew things would be different, harder perhaps, needing creative solutions to address new challenges, but we were ready. I’ve watched every one of these students work hard, bring their best, commit to a common goal, and bust a gut to make this show a reality.

Thank you for supporting us as we overcame the odds and created a bit of theatre magic.
Theatre is a shared experience, not only between the actors and the audience, but between one actor and another, between actors and crew, between friends. Shared experiences have been hard to come by during COVID, so we are all very thankful for this opportunity. Theatre brings people together because it is a collaborative art. It’s this connection with other theatre people that is so life-giving and that has been so dearly missed over the past year.

Thank you for supporting these students and allowing them to connect with other like-minded creative people to be a part of our little theatre community.
According to George Clooney, “The secret of directing is working with really good people.” I’ve been so fortunate to work with Superwomen: Nicole Kuglich, Maggie Kinnamon, and Ellen Ericson! These women stood shoulder to shoulder with me, and with hard work and creativity, we’ve produced a piece of theatre magic!
